Number of Members: 12

Founded: 2004

Group History
#

In the spring of 2004, a beginner’s taiko workshop was held in Kamloops by Katari Taiko of Vancouver, BC. A small group of workshop participants were so inspired that Raiden Taiko was formed later that summer under the umbrella of the Kamloops Japanese Canadian Association. Initial grant funding for equipment and workshops was obtained through NAJC SEAD and KJCA. Other forms of fundraising included craft sales, private donations, sale of Entertainment® discount books, corporate loyalty rebate program, performance honoraria and internal funding though dues collection. In 2008, we purchased our first performance quality taiko in 2008 that are still in use today. As of 2025, two founding members are still active in the group.

An experienced group with a new cohort of enthusiastic members, we continue strive to be the best versions of ourselves. Additionally, we support newly formed taiko groups with equipment and instruction. A new initiative launching in 2026 is Senpai TaikoFUN!, a seniors wellness program inspired by the principles of EXADON™.

In 2024, we celebrated our 20th anniversary with the Raiden Taiko 20. You can watch our performance on YouTube.
